With the French Riviera as its stunning backdrop, EDHEC Business School’s Global MBA program also stands out for its innovative approach to business education and for its profound commitment to diversity. With an average class size of under 80 students representing around 30 nationalities, EDHEC provides a transformative learning environment that thrives on personalization and inclusivity. From its efforts to achieve cohort gender parity to its celebration of professional diversity and robust scholarship offerings, the Global MBA reflects a forward-thinking ethos tailored to the realities of today’s global business world.

A Diverse Cohort: Nationalities, Professions, and Experiences

The EDHEC Global MBA attracts professionals from all corners of the world, offering a melting pot of cultural perspectives and career trajectories. With an average age of 32 and students coming from industries as varied as finance, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, the program offers an unparalleled opportunity for cross-pollination of ideas. “We have 26 nationalities in a cohort of 67 people,” says Simone Whale, an American who held Director roles in marketing strategy before the GMBA.  She highlights the richness of this diversity, which extends beyond nationalities to encompass different levels of experience, noting that the upper age range includes professionals with up to 15 years of experience.

For Simone, this dynamic environment is central to EDHEC’s appeal.

“Having the opportunity to work in such a multicultural and international environment is essential to prepare us for the global careers we’re seeking,” she explains.

Through group-based case studies and collaborative projects, students not only deepen their understanding of complex business problems but also learn to appreciate and leverage the unique perspectives that their peers bring to the table.

Gender Parity and Support for Women

EDHEC’s commitment to gender diversity is another defining characteristic of its Global MBA program. In 2024, the school achieved gender parity, with women comprising 50% of the class—a milestone celebrated by the broader business education community. This accomplishment places EDHEC among a select group of institutions that have reached this significant benchmark. The achievement reflects EDHEC’s active engagement with initiatives like the Forté Foundation, which seeks to empower women through access to business education and leadership opportunities.

This commitment is further underscored by the breadth of scholarships available to female applicants, including the prestigious Swati Kansal Memorial Scholarship for Women of Impact. Established in honor of Swati Kansal, a distinguished 2019 Global MBA graduate who made an outstanding contribution to the school and her class, this generous scholarship is awarded to women from lower-middle-income economies. Recipients must demonstrate a strong desire to contribute to the school, business, and society while showing potential for leadership and career success.

For Simone, this emphasis on gender representation was more than a statistic; it was a lived experience that influenced her decision to join the program. “Many schools have a very complex scholarship process,” she notes, contrasting this with EDHEC’s transparent approach. “They detailed clearly how much I was eligible for through their Women in Leadership scholarship and early admission incentives. This removed a lot of anxiety around costs and demonstrated their commitment to gender parity through action.”

Such efforts go beyond admissions. As part of its curriculum, EDHEC integrates gender diversity into classroom discussions and case studies, ensuring that female voices and experiences are equally represented. This approach not only fosters an inclusive learning environment but also prepares male students to be allies and advocates for gender equity in their future workplaces.

Personalized and Purposeful Learning

Central to the EDHEC Global MBA is its emphasis on personalization, which enables students to tailor their academic journeys to align with their unique career aspirations. This flexibility extends to the program length, with options to complete it in 10 months or extend it to 16 months for additional specializations or internships. Students can choose from specialization tracks such as entrepreneurship, global leadership, international and climate finance, or AI and innovation, ensuring that their learning aligns closely with their professional goals.

For Vietnamese participant Hoa Le, a former equity analyst from Ho Chi Minh City, this personalization has been pivotal. With a background in economics and finance, Hoa brings a wealth of experience, including her role in developing a quantitative investment model that transformed Vietnam’s bond market. Her decision to join EDHEC was informed by the program’s global focus and its ability to support her ambition of bridging European and Asian financial markets. “EDHEC is distinguishable to me because of its emphasis on personalization,” she explains. “The electives I chose have helped me build leadership skills, while the Sustainability Impact Challenge has allowed me to apply my expertise to solve real-life business issues.”

This Sustainability Impact Challenge, a cornerstone of the program, exemplifies EDHEC’s commitment to purpose-driven business education. Spanning five months, the challenge enables students to collaborate with companies on live projects that address pressing environmental and social issues. Simone, for instance, is working with a French organization dedicated to improving access to technology for people with disabilities, an experience she describes as deeply rewarding. “EDHEC doesn’t just check the box with a single module on CSR or ESG,” she observes. “Instead, they have woven it into most, if not all, courses.”

The Impact of Diversity on Leadership Development

EDHEC’s emphasis on diversity extends beyond demographics to the very fabric of its pedagogy. The program’s intimate cohort size fosters a sense of community, where collaboration takes precedence over competition. Students like Simone appreciate this unique dynamic, which she contrasts with the cutthroat environments often associated with larger MBA programs. “What EDHEC gives you from start to finish is a personalized touch,” she remarks. “This philosophy permeates every aspect of the MBA experience, shaping us into global leaders ready to make a sustainable impact.”

The program also places a strong emphasis on leadership development, incorporating evidence-based frameworks and reflective practices that help students grow as individuals and as professionals. Courses led by faculty members like Inge De Clippeleer and Fabian Bernhard provide practical tools for managing teams and driving organizational change. For Simone, this focus on self-awareness and constructive feedback has been transformative. “Many MBAs share a common trait of being high-achievers,” she explains. “An unfortunate side effect of this is you often lack constructive feedback to continue growing.”

Hoa echoes this sentiment, highlighting the importance of leadership skills in achieving her long-term goal of facilitating investment flows between Europe and Vietnam. “Exposure to diverse perspectives is critical in today’s interconnected business world,” she says. “It fosters innovation, enhances problem-solving capabilities, and prepares future leaders to navigate the complexities of global markets.”

A Model for the Future of Business Education

EDHEC’s Global MBA program is not only a reflection of the school’s values but also a model for the future of business education. Its accolades—such as being ranked the #1 MBA worldwide for entrepreneurship by Poets&Quants and consistently placing in the top four for ESG teaching by the Financial Times—are a testament to its ability to blend academic rigor with practical relevance. More importantly, these achievements underscore the school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, forward-thinking community.

By combining gender parity with a global and professional diversity that mirrors the realities of modern business, EDHEC equips its students with the tools they need to drive meaningful change. Whether through sustainable impact projects, tailored learning paths, or a collaborative classroom culture, the program prepares its graduates to lead with empathy, adaptability, and purpose.

In the words of Simone, “In choosing EDHEC, I didn’t just select a business school; I joined a community that values personalized individual growth as the barometer for collective success.”
